Concussion Policy & Resources

In accordance with the policies of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Skate Ontario has developed a Concussion Policy for the sport of figure skating in Ontario.  That policy can be reviewed by clicking on this link:Skate-Ontario-Concussion-Policy.pdf

On June 11, 2020, the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries (MHSTCI) announced the implementation date of Phase 2 of Rowan’s Law has been changed from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

If a skater is removed from practice/competition because of a suspected concussion, they will not be allowed to return to practice/competition until cleared to do so by an appropriate health care provider using the Return to Play Form (Appendix A).
Skaters and parents/guardians must acknowledge reading the Skate Ontario Concussion Policy when registering to enter a Skate Ontario event, and must complete the Skate Ontario Concussion Disclaimer (Appendix B) as part of the registration and before being allowed to practice or compete.
