Enhancement Team Policy
Policy # 5.3

Applies to:  All Members
Implementation Date: September 2020
Revision Date: September 11, 2023

Policy Statement

Orillia Figure Skating Club (OFSC) is a membership-based organization recognized by Skate Ontario, the governing body for the Orillia Figure Skating Club and by Skate Canada, which is the governing body of Skate Ontario.

The purpose of this Policy is to contribute to the growth and development of our skaters in a safe sporting environment by providing our Orillia FSC Enhancement Team members with the rules, requirements, fees and conditions of being a part of the Enhancement Team.

This Policy strives to provide increased accountability to both parties and provide a mechanism for transparency, identification of governance issues and an enhanced commitment to safe sport.

This Policy applies to all registered members of the Orillia Figure Skating Club Enhancement Team.

Orillia Club Skaters – Skaters who are registered with Skate Canada through the Orillia Figure Skating Club.

Out of Town Skaters – Skaters who are registered with Skate Canada through another figure skating club.

The Enhancement Team is by invitation only and includes a fall/winter session and spring session. All skaters (Orillia Club skaters and Out of Town skaters) will receive invitation via email. The invitation to the Enhancement Team includes the entire skating season; if the skater is invited to participate in the fall/winter session, no further invitation is required to participate in the spring session.

The Enhancement program provides skaters with the opportunity to develop their skating skills through extra training time and dedicated coaching staff to help guide them through their StarSkate and/or Podium Pathway skating.

Skaters who have been invited to join the Enhancement Team by the team coordinator(s) must show dedication and commitment to developing their skating. Skaters participating in this program must be punctual (on and off-ice), have regular attendance, and provide notice to the team coordinator(s) if they will be absent from a session.

If a skater is absent for two (2) or more classes (on/off ice) without good cause and/or without prior notification to the team coordinator(s), they can/may be asked to leave the program. No refunds will be provided in this case.

Mandatory Program Requirements

Skaters must have a full-time membership with the Orillia Figure Skating Club; skating a minimum of three (3) days per week on club ice or out of town skaters must show proof they are registered full-time in their home club.

The below Mandatory Program Requirements apply to both Orillia Club skaters and Out of Town Skaters:

·    Skaters are required to participate in mandatory fundraising set up to benefit the Enhancement Team.

·    Skaters are required to participate in all off-ice conditioning. The location will be determined at the beginning of the fall/winter session.

·    Skaters are required to compete in a minimum of two (2) competitions in the fall/winter session. These two (2) competitions must be a Star 1-4, Provincial Series or Sectional Series competitions and not Fun Competitions.

·     All Star 5 and higher skaters must register with Skate Ontario Provincial Series or Sectional Series.

·    Skaters must display a keen interest in pursuing extra training to increase their skating skills and better their performance in competition.

Enhancement Levels & Criteria

Skaters on the Enhancement Team will participate in one specific training day per week, which includes both on and off-ice instruction. All skaters will be provided ice time on Saturday mornings through the winter session and Friday evenings in the spring session. (Subject to change if needed based on ice contract with the City of Orillia).

If numbers warrant, skaters will be divided into two (2) groups, which will be determined at the time of registration. Skaters will be divided into two groups according to the level at which they are competing for the upcoming season. The team coordinator(s) must be notified if a skater changes competition levels. If numbers warrant, skaters will be notified prior to the first day of skating as to which group they will be participating in.

Skating instruction will be in a group lesson format, working on skating skills, jumps, spins and other exercises to enhance skating development. Some individual lessons may be provided if needed. The off-ice class session will follow the on-ice session,

Enhancement fees are based on the length of the session and how many weeks the session runs (the number of sessions on and off ice).

Skaters are charged additional fees for the semi-private lessons they receive; however, this fee will be split by the number of skaters in the group. These fees are billed separately by each coach providing instruction.

Skate Ontario Lottery Tickets:
All Enhancement Team skaters will receive a second booklet of tickets to sell as part of the mandatory program’s fundraising efforts and this is included in the registration fee. This booklet is in addition to the one that is included in the StarSkate program. There are twenty (20) tickets in each booklet for a total of $40.00. Each ticket is sold for $2.00; the money collected is kept by the family as the $40.00 is added to registration fees. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to the Enhancement Team.

Additional fundraising initiatives will be brought forward and presented to the team as required.

Registration fees can be paid in full or through the Orillia FSC payment plan.
